Concept

The puzzle table was inspired by the joinery of traditional Japanese three dimensional puzzles. It uses no screws or glue in its construction. Six solid ash legs are interlocked to form a three dimensional cross for the table’s base, while the table top is made from toughened safety glass.

The table received a lot of press during exhibitions in 1997 and several were sold on this basis. A further development of this table is the puzzle table II.

Puzzle Table II

The puzzle table II uses a Japanese joint with only three legs to form the three-dimensional cross for the table’s base. The legs are made from solid maple and the table top is made of toughened safety glass. Three holes are drilled into the glass to securely locate the top to the base.

The puzzle table II has previously been sold in Brown Thomas, Dublin and is also produced (under licence) in North America by SpekeKlien furniture makers. They also make a dining table version.
